Painting on feathers. Now there's an ideal.
I remember painting my first feathers back in early 1991. The ideal came from buying some white turkey feathers that had been airbrushed to look like hawk feathers for a project. Because of the oils in bird feathers, I never thought paint would adhere to them. Even though the thought had crossed my mind time and again to try it. So I did and after a few trial and errors I managed to carve out a formula. One I have only slightly tweaked all these years. Painting is done in Acrylic and only on legal game and domestic bird feathers. Primarily turkey feathers molted from specialty breeders or humanly hunted. Duck, goose and parrot feathers have also been used. I am very particular about preservation and use. In honor and respect to our natural world. So I do not take this art form lightly. |
